ROTARY COUNCIL ON LEGISLATION-A REPORT

Dear Club and District Leaders,

As you may know, I am the delegate to the Rotary Council on Legislation representing District 5060. The Council concluded its work a few of weeks ago making some significant changes to the Constitution and bylaws of Rotary International.

A number of these enactments will have an impact on your club and you should review them with your board and membership. Although the enactments will become official until July 1, 2019, you should begin to address them immediately.

In all, the Council consider 117 enactments and adopted 47 of them. One of the most significant was the elevation of Rotaract Clubs into membership in Rotary International. The RI board was also authorized to apply for a change in the tax exemption status of RI from the US Internal Revenue Service.

In addition, the Council approved an increase in dues to RI of $1.00 (US) per year for the next three years. An extensive rewrite of the Manual of Procedure to clear up the language and reduce the size of the document was passed as well. The rewrite made no changes in substance, just language.

To read and review each of the enactments and consider the impact on your club, go to www.rotary.org, and search for "Council on Legislation 2019."

Under a heading titled: "Proposed Legislation 2019" you can read the wording of each of the enactments. Under the heading "Vote Totals- 2019 Council on Legislation" you will find those that were passed, rejected, or withdrawn. There are several other articles that can help clarify the impact of this legislation on Rotary clubs.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Rotary Regards
Darrell Blue, PDG

A REPORT FROM GREG LURING

Greg Luring was recently selected to be Rotary International President Barry Rassin's personal Representative at the District 7690 Conference in Greenville, SC.

Greg and Jan attended a 3 day district conference where Greg addressed the group each day and presented ideas on membership and service used successfully in our District 5060. His speech was tailored to highlight and support President Barry's theme of "Be The Inspiration". Greg and Jan attended 4 different club meetings prior to the District Conference where each club briefed them on their clubs avenues of service.

One standout project, that cost 2.7 million dollars and 13 years in the making, was a beautiful Carousel. It is an old fashioned merry go round if you will. It was quite stunning. It will provide joy to many for generations to come, it has a great public image for Rotarians, and it is a source of pride for all.

A second project that was conceived locally and is spreading to other districts is project RUSH. Rotarians United to Stop Hunger. It is a multifaceted approach to not only give a hand out but a hand up to those in need.

In short District 7690 is group of high performing highly motivated Rotarians that we're beaming with pride

A GREAT FUNDRAISER

The Oliver Rotary Club fund raises to support the growth of the youth of the community as well as supporting international programs such as World Neighbours Canada that assists villages in rural Nepal to construct water systems to ensure clean drinking water is provided to the village residents. The Oliver Rotary Club also supports the Desert Valley Hospice Society, established "H2H, Highway to Healing Support Society" which assists many families in our area who have had to take their sick and distressed children to distant locations for treatments.

We have also committed to raising $30,000 for the Penticton Regional Hospital new tower.

This year the Rotary Club of Oliver is holding a Treasures of the South Okanagan Fundraising raffle. The fundraiser draws upon the unique holiday/vacation attractions the South Okanagan offers.
